Are we worthy of this Earth?
Our tread upon her skin and body,
our struggles and experiences
And sometimes I truly doubt
whether we deserve this Earth—
her very existence
And sometimes I fear
if we prove unworthy indeed
if she shakes us off—
strangers who’ve taken
the place of her own
Isn’t this warning familiar,
yet endlessly repeated—
history locking itself
as a lesson for us:
those vanished peoples?
Now we must answer plainly, from the heart.
Can we even—
do we have the strength—
with responsibility and ancestral feeling—
to respond?
Could we truly fail?
Just once, together—
noticing her,
awakening—might we sing in chorus?
Would Earth only listen...
turn her face to us again
as her own?
